Patreon Update: June 2016

Welcome to my Patreon Update for June 2016. This is my monthly report of how my Patreon campaign is performing, as well as my chance to thank everyone for their ongoing support.

As always, let's get started with last month's earnings. Below you can see my transparency report regarding all the pledges that were received and processed for May.

May 2016 Earnings

Transitioning from April into May saw a nice increase in earnings. For those keeping track, below are the latest numbers:

  • Pledged: $2,644.50
  • Service Fees: $273.13
  • Processed: $2,401.02

Firstly, I think it's important to note that the above graph may appear confusing. Believe me, I was feeling the same way — but then I remembered that Patreon now processes pledges in real-time. In other words, as soon as someone becomes a patron, their pledge is processed instantly.

This change causes some confusion on my end when trying to be transparent with numbers, but we'll just have to roll with it. And hey, at least it's a positive change. I'm glad Patreon is taking action in trying to make this a better experience for creators.

For now, when referring to the graph of processed pledges, it's best to focus on the previous month — as the current month is still in the process of collecting new patrons and pledges. Make sense? Regardless of feeling confused, I am happy to say that my Patreon campaign continues to perform well.

Last month I teased the idea of introducing a new $2 pledge tier, where the primary reward would allow patrons to view one of four monthly patrons-only vlogs. This would be during the first week of every month. I think going this route could be a nice way of diversifying my campaign and introducing new patrons into the mix. Of course, I wouldn't want to take away any value from current $5+ patrons, so I would think about this carefully.

Provided I do decide to move forward with this change, I was thinking July could be perfect. The 1st of the month just happens to fall on a Friday, which is when I typically release the patrons-only vlogs. And because this would be new, I plan on monitoring the numbers closely and seeing whether it's working.

What do you think? If you have any ideas on how I can further improve my Patreon campaign, please feel free to contact me. My inbox is always open!
