Patreon Update: July 2016
Welcome to my Patreon Update for July 2016. This is my monthly report of how my Patreon campaign is performing, as well as my chance to thank everyone for their ongoing support.
As always, let's get started with last month's earnings. Below you can see my transparency report regarding all the pledges that were received and processed for June.
June 2016 Earnings
Transitioning from May into June saw a slight decrease in earnings. For those keeping track, below are the latest numbers:
- Pledged: $2,534.50
- Service Fees: $274.50
- Processed: $2,260.00
Isn't it nice when the summer weather arrives? More people are getting outside (especially thanks to Pokémon GO) and away from the computer. Of course, this also means that less people will be watching my videos. And believe me, it's showing. My Patreon campaign has seen a slight decrease since last month, but it's nothing to worry about.
Thankfully, this is normal, as the summer tends to bring a lot of downtime for creators. Things will naturally pick up as September makes its way around. But do we really have to wait that long?
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately... What if I gave daily vlogging a fair chance? And I'm not talking about exclusively on Patreon. I'm referring to my YouTube content in general. Uploading daily vlogs has been something I've wanted to explore for quite some time now, but I have never found the right moment — especially considering how well my weekend vlogs and patrons-only vlogs continue to perform.
Turning to daily vlogging would mean a drastic change in my overall content and schedule. Not only would the weekend vlogs be no more, but the patrons-only vlogs would also go away. Doing so would allow me more time to delivery a quality vlog every day, which could certainly be fun. However, I'm afraid of the kind of impact this change can have on my Patreon campaign. So, I'm asking you...
If daily vlogs became a thing, would you still pledge every month? No matter the amount, everyone's pledges would have help immensely — especially considering the amount of time and work involved in vlogging daily. Of course, I would have to rethink my Patreon campaign and introduce some new perks that can help convince current patrons to stay onboard.
But then again, it's worth noting that my campaign was doing very well before the patrons-only vlogs even existed. So, would you support me just for the sake of enjoying daily vlogs, or would you rather want more? And before anyone suggests that I do daily vlogs and patrons-only vlogs, I've thought about it. However, realistically speaking, I don't think I could do it. If I were to begin vlogging daily, then I would want to put all my attention into it.
Okay, but what does this mean for my tech content? Would the unboxings and reviews go anywhere? Of course not! Those videos would continue to be uploaded when they're ready to be shared. If anything, I think doing doing vlogs could offer a nice insight behind my tech videos — kind of like a behind-the-scenes style.
With all the above said, it's important to remember that this change isn't happening overnight. I am, however, very interested in doing a trial run throughout the month of August. Beginning on August 1st, I'm going to upload my first daily vlog of 31. When August wraps up, we'll see where I stand. Yes, this means that weekend vlogs and patrons-only vlogs will be on hiatus.
Who knows, this could blow up in my face and be a total disaster. But you know what? I will never know without trying. I'll certainly be keeping a close eye on the performance of both my YouTube channel and Patreon campaign throughout August.
I invite you to come along with me on this new venture. Let's see what happens.
